“Sonic and Mario are back in town!!” Cellar 24 comes to Liverpool

Cellar 24 opened its doors on Wood Street in Liverpool City Centre earlier this month. Based at the site which was previously Djangos Riff, a few hundred yards from the hustle and bustle of Concert Square in Liverpool’s Ropewalks area.

The intimate venue holds around 150 people and brings a retro vibe to the Ropewalks area.  Opening from Wednesday to Sunday Cellar 24 is an ideal spot to take in the World Cup in Russia this coming June.

The venue will not only host live music, but it will be the only bar in Liverpool where you can play over 600 retro video games. Owner, Kevin Midgley, 42 said: “We have many unique selling points, the retro games bar is completely new to Liverpool and we also have six-pint beer towers, which you can’t get anywhere else currently.

With all the work going on in the Ropewalks we wanted to be part of this area of the city. Our offering is also something popular with the student and music crowd and this part of town is perfect for that.”

The premises have been completely refurbished. With four booths, retro games, shisha, pool, beer pong and waitress service this basement setting is one not to miss. Cellar 24’s walls have been painted by local artist, Paul Curtis, showing an aerial view of Liverpool’s city centre and keeping with the retro feel of the venue.

Kev Midgley who is also GM of the venue comes with over 15 year’s industry experience from well-known city venues such as Modo, Igloo and Ink. “We have been looking to roll this idea out for some time. It was all about the location for us. We will be creating over 30 new jobs ranging from part-time to full-time roles including Bar Managers. There is something very different about basement venues that offer you a calm oasis away from the city noise and we feel we have achieved this here. Customers can also design their own gin, choosing a gin brand, tonic and garnish to finish, which again is something a little different.”

Games available range from iconic titles such as Street Fighter to Mario Cart.
