Malmaison Birmingham welcomes suite of new managers

Malmaison Birmingham has welcomed two new members of staff on board, just in time for the peak summer season. The boutique hotel has hired Arron Wincott as hotel manager and Stephanie Taylor as sales manager and hopes that this will help continue its sales drive.

The group has already exceeded its sales projections this year and expects this to be boosted by the new recruits, who will be responsible for taking Malmaison into its busiest time of year. The appointment of Arron and Stephanie sees the total staff count reach new heights with 163 employees.

Those familiar to the city’s hotel scene will already recognise Arron Wincott: having previously worked at Malmaison’s sister hotel, Hotel du Vin, Arron is no stranger to the Frasers Property Group. He will be using his experience as HdV’s deputy manager to excel in his latest role as hotel manager, bringing the group’s signature customer service with him.  Arron has over 19 years’ experience in the hospitality field, having started as a waiter at just the age of 16. He joined the Frasers Property Group in 2016.

Arron’s promotion will see him undertake the responsibility of ensuring the standards of the guests’ journey is paramount and exceeds expectations. He will also be responsible for making sure that the hotel delivers on all revenue and profit targets and continues the success of the hotel.

Commenting on his appointment, Arron said:

“I am excited to be taking on the role of hotel manager at Malmaison Birmingham. Coming from the other side of the brand in Hotel du Vin, I am eager to see what I can bring to the table for Mal, to take the hotel to the next level. The Frasers Property Group is renowned internationally for delivering the highest possible hospitality standards, so to have worked for two of its brands and progressed to Hotel Manager within such a successful company, is a huge professional achievement for me, and I look forward to making the most of the opportunity.”

Arron will be joined by new sales manager, Stephanie Taylor, who has been working in the hotel industry for seven years. Having previously worked for Q Hotels and Principal Hotels, this latest endeavour will see Stephanie take on new challenges, including finding new business for the hotel while further developing its offer for its current customers. Day-to-day, Stephanie will be showcasing event and meeting spaces to clients, using the skills learnt from her Event Management and Tourism degree from the University of Gloucestershire.

“Not only am I excited to be joining the Malmaison team, but I’m also looking forward to being based in Birmingham. I haven’t worked in the city before, but there seems to be no better time to be in Brum. Malmaison’s reputation in the city is already impressive, so I look forward to building on these foundations, continuing to meet new clients and seeing how we can keep striving to deliver and exceed all expectations,” commented Stephanie.

The new team changes follow a successful three years, which have seen the completion of a hotel-wide refurbishment. All 193 bedrooms have received a makeover, as well as a new look for ChezMal and MalBar, and the complete revamp of its two suites, Havana and Nirvana. What’s more, Mal’s conferencing and events offer has continued to thrive following the national debut of the Work + Play concept: last year, its covers had increased, and the occupancy was up.

Commenting on the recent success, Damian Goom, the senior general manager, said:

“I know I speak on behalf of the entire Malmaison Birmingham team when I say that we are so pleased to welcome Arron and Stephanie to the hotel. This is a tremendously exciting time for Malmaison and we’re really riding the way of success, following the five years of investment that have gone into our refurbishment. I have no doubt that Arron and Stephanie will continue to add to this success and will help us reach our ambitious targets over the coming years.”
