It was a great night for Westrow – the multi-award winning hairdressing group with nine salons across Yorkshire and an educational academy in the heart of Leeds – at the British Hairdressing Business Awards 2018.
The event, hosted by Hairdressers Journal International, aims to both recognise talent within the industry and raise the profile of the professional hairdressing industry in the wider world, and Westrow Directors, Steve Rowbottom and Marc Westerman, were thrilled to be welcomed into the Hairdressing Hall of Fame on the night in the Business Director of the Year category.
This is one of the highest accolades in hairdressing and achieving a place is a rarity in the industry, and a first within this category. To be inducted, hairdressers must win the same category three times – a huge testament to the duo’s enduring passion for their craft.
The Westrow Academy, the multi award-winning educational institute in the heart of Leeds city centre, was also a winner on the night. The Briggate-based hair education academy fought off nationwide competition to win in the Training Award category, for the second time in four years of trading.
The Training Award category is open to the best educators in the country, and Westrow scooped first prize in the category for the second time, having impressed the judges with the skill and vision demonstrated at its purpose-built centre of educational excellence, which has the facility to provide education in hairdressing, barbering, management and business, to up to 240 students at any time.
Westrow picked up the prestigious awards at a star-studded awards ceremony held earlier this week at London’s Park Plaza Hotel. Hosted by TV presenter, Vernon Kay, the awards were attended by more than 800 hairdressers and VIPs.
Jayne Lewis Orr, Executive Director of Hairdressers Journal International, comments: “A huge congratulations to Steve Rowbottom and Marc Westerman of Westrow on their Training award and their place in the Hall of Fame. They have been named as worthy winners and remain fantastic ambassadors for the industry with their skills and vision. Together, they work tirelessly to champion hairdressing as an exciting and inspiring career, both through their own work in salons and through their time and dedication to training.”
Commenting on their wins, Westrow Co-Directors, Steve Rowbottom and Marc Westerman, said: “This is Westrow’s 31st year in business and we are honoured to have been welcomed into the Hairdressing Hall of Fame. Alongside this, training is at the absolute core of Westrow’s DNA and to win the Training award for the second time in only four years of trading is a tremendous accolade.
It means everything as education is the foundation we have built our success and reputation on. Thanks to our talented team at the Westrow Academy we can continue to grow our vision and work to raise the standard of hairdressing education in this country.”
