With festival season about to kick off across Europe and the UK, we’re seeing an influx of clients at our Yorkshire-based Q61 nail + beauty studios in Harrogate and Leeds looking for fast, effective ways to switch up their beauty. Festival-goers are notoriously more relaxed and open to trying out new looks, offering us as salon owners the opportunity to encourage clients to try more playful colours and daring lengths and shapes, that are more about appearance and less about practicality. Here are my top festival beauty trends for 2019:

RAINBOW BRIGHT

Statement eyes are the key feature of any festival look and this summer will be no exception. At this year’s Coachella –a good barometer of the hottest festival trends each year – rainbow painted eyes were a standout trend, with influencers and models amongst those sporting the bright and colourful trend. An easy – and long-lasting way to add impact to your eyes is with semi-permanent lash extensions, such as the glamorous Russian Volume Individual Lashes we offer at Q61. Extensions can add length, volume, thickness and curl – all tailored to a client’s unique needs, depending on their eye shape and desired look, and most importantly they last well beyond the length of a festival.

They’re the ideal way to offset this summer’s rainbow eye make-up trend and are perfect for nailing dramatic festival eyes, without the need for mascara, lash curlers and fiddly false lashes.

ALL WHITE NOW

The ‘colour runway’ at Q61’s Harrogate and Leeds beauty studios feature a seasonal collection of nail shades, which we switch up regularly in line with the latest trends. Our hottest nail colour for summer 2019? Off-white: a bright tip-ex esque hue with just the faintest hint of lilac, that’s only visible in certain light. It’s similar to the purple-white shade emitted by UV lights, so is reminiscent of partying and nightclubs, making it particularly appealing as a festival colour. It looks especially stunning against tanned fingers and toes, so we’re recommending our clients pair it with Sienna X’s gorgeous spray tan. The unique formula of the Sienna X tan leaves even the fairest skins with a natural-looking golden hue and flawless finish. It’s ideal for a festival, as the moisture-rich formula infuses the skin with long-lasting moisture and gives it a radiant hue, meaning clients can leave their usual foundation, instant tan, shimmer and bronzer combination at home. Plus the colour lasts the length of a festival before fading evenly, so it’s a true festival essential year after year.

THE GLITTER-ARTY

When it comes to festival face decoration, glitter is still shining through into 2019 (sustainable options preferably). It’s the perfect festival accessory as it can be added to make-up (or used instead of as it won’t melt off in the heat) and looks great added to cheekbones or eyelids. But it’s not just glitter that’s adding the wow factor, this summer jewels have become high-fashion: from the crystal studded smoky eye make-up at Moschino Resort 2019 to Valentino S/S19’s shimmering green eye jewels, so they’ll no doubt be a hit with the most fashionable of festival goers this summer. At Q61 we’re giving our clients glitter nails with some opting for bejewelled variations, using tiny multi-coloured crystals set into gel, for a subtle but sparkling festival look that lasts.

NEON NIGHTS

Festivals are known for ‘more is more’ fashion, loud colours and daring styles that are the exact opposite of what you would wear in your daily life, so they’re the ideal place to showcase some loud nail art. Neon fashion – particularly lime green – is currently a huge social media trend, and neon nail art, especially on a clear base, is an organic extension of this. Kylie Jenner kicked off the trend for neon nail art at Coachella 2019 with neon coral, blue and highlighter pen yellow stars painted onto a transparent nail base and we predict plenty of copycat versions over the summer.
