Merseyrail has been recognised as the best performing regional rail operator at this year’s Golden Whistle Awards.
The train company enjoyed its best performing year to date in 2019, with 96.36% of trains running on time, and this was further compounded by this significant award win.
The awards, which are organised by Modern Railways and the Institution of Railway Operators, are dedicated to people who work in or interface with railway operations and are based on operational performance statistics.
They recognise those who have gone above and beyond expectations in order to deliver outstanding operational performance.
Not only was Merseyrail named the most punctual rail operator for the second year running in 2019, it also came top of all franchised operators in the autumn 2019 National Rail Passenger Survey.
Zoe Hands, Operations Director at Merseyrail, said: “This is a fantastic achievement and testament to everyone involved in providing the reliable and customer-focused service that Merseyrail is famous for.
“It’s nice to know that at a time when there is a lot of bad news in the railway industry, that there are success stories too.
“There are a lot of people working hard to make the railway the best it can be and I know we couldn’t have achieved our levels of performance without our partners in Merseytravel, Stadler, British Transport Police, Carlisle and especially Network Rail.
“It’s particularly satisfying that while we’ve just been awarded for last year’s performance, we now have our first period of 2020 under our belts and that was saw us achieve well over 97% of trains arriving on time or within 5 minutes so we continue to push the boundaries of what’s achievable.”
