Stagecoach’s Lisa Gale breaks the mould

Lisa Gale is head of marketing at Stagecoach Merseyside, Cheshire and South Lancashire, and is a great example of an inspiring woman forging a brilliant career, in an industry that is traditionally very male dominated.

In her role at Stagecoach, Lisa has been instrumental in driving forward the business, creating effective partnerships and creatively engaging with new and current customers across a range of platforms. She has also been key to making the business feel more inclusive to women, not only to passengers but also its female workforce.

A young mum of one, Lisa led an innovative UK-first campaign to promote buses as breastfeeding friendly spaces following a Public Health England report which found that one in five women believed people did not want them to breastfeed in public, with many saying they have been made to feel uncomfortable in their surroundings.  Lisa coordinated a prominent breastfeeding friendly campaign, with breast-feeding friendly logos displayed across all Stagecoach buses in Merseyside. This has transformed the business’ approach to this area and comprehensive breastfeeding awareness training is now provided to all staff as part of their training. There is potential for the programme to be rolled out across Stagecoach nationally.

Lisa has championed for more women to get involved in the sector since joining Stagecoach’s marketing team in January 2012, from apprentices starting their careers to working mums looking for a change of calling. She also organised a dynamic creative stunt with Atomic Kitten star, Natasha Hamilton, showing her how to learn how to drive a bus as part of a wider campaign to encourage women to consider working in the bus industry and continues to champion women in the sector.
