Hospice urges business community to support vital services throughout 2021

After starting the new year with a third lockdown, Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice is urging the local business community to step up and support their vital services.

After starting the new year with a third lockdown, Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice is urging the local business community to step up and support their vital services this year as they continue to support those most vulnerable in the fight against Covid-19.

At Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice, patients, their families and loved ones come first, for over forty years they have been working to build a future where everyone has the best experience of living, all the way up to the end of life.

Now, the hospice faces a significant uphill climb as they continue to provide the highest quality personalised support, expertise and compassion for patients and their families, while also adapting services in line with new restrictions.

That’s why Birmingham St Mary’s is inviting businesses to support a charity that has been on the frontline throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. The hospice have been supporting our patients, both on the Inpatient Unit and via telephone and video call for the Day Hospice programme, educating care homes and healthcare professionals, launching a 24/7 telephone advice service, extending bereavement services in the community and launching a homelessness project. In these incredibly challenging times, local people still deserve the very best care possible, and Birmingham St Mary’s has stepped up to make sure no one gets left behind.

However, Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice is a charity, and relies heavily on the generosity of the local community to fund their vital care. It costs £24,658 to run the hospice services every single day, including the Inpatient Unit, Day Hospice, Hospice at Home and bereavement service. Heartbreakingly, this third lockdown has meant charity shops have had to close once again and fundraising events have been cancelled. The support of the business community is more vital than ever right now to ensure the safety of our essential healthcare services.

Partnerships Manager, Helen Rawnsley, said: “None of us could have ever imagined the events of the last twelve months. Despite all the restrictions, our doctors, nurses, social workers and bereavement team counsellors are still bringing peace, comfort and dignity to local people with life-limiting illnesses.”

“That’s why we are calling on the Birmingham business community to support our hospice in 2021. We want our corporate partnerships to bring mutual value, so we’ll make sure that your own business objectives are achieved as well. We’ll work with you to create a bespoke partnership, tailored to your business that will make a huge impact to our vital services.”
