Going Underground – The £330m annual dividend if we get HS2 right

Private sector lobby group Downtown in Business, in partnership with Bruntwood and RDPR , is hosting a special Leaders Lunch event to press the case for the department of transport to revise its designs for the next phase of HS2.

Private sector lobby group Downtown in Business, in partnership with Bruntwood and RDPR , is hosting a special Leaders Lunch event next month to press the case for the department of transport to revise its designs for the next phase of HS2.

Coinciding with the announcement of the Tory leadership contest result, the leader of Manchester City Council Bev Craig, and he chief executive of the council Joanne Roney will address business leaders on the importance of a ‘premier league’ HS2 solution for the city.

Frank McKenna, the Group chairman and chief executive of Downtown in Business said:

“The current plan, to deliver a surface station, will swallow up a huge chunk of city centre land that will otherwise be economically productive and support the city’s ‘levelling up’ efforts.

“Instead, we are arguing that an underground version, which will cost an additional £3 billion according to current projections, will provide £333million a year in additional economic benefit.

“The event offers leaders from business and politics to evidence the advantages of an underground scheme, and we would urge the city’s businesses to get behind this campaign.”
