Manchester’s Strategic Director for Growth and Development addresses business leaders

Manchester City Council’s Strategic Director for Growth and Development, Becca Heron, recently addressed DIB members and gave insight into exciting new projects that are shaping the future of Greater Manchester.

Downtown in Business MD Chris McKenna was joined in conversation with Strategic Director for Growth and Development at Manchester City Council, Becca Heron, for an exclusive lunchtime event in the heart of Salford, at the stunning Lowry Hotel.

After moving from Wigan Council in 2021, Becca reflected on her first 18 months in the role, working closely with Chief Executive Joanne Roney and Leader Bev Craig. Becca highlighted a number of key projects that have been and are currently being delivered including Manchester’s first city centre park at Mayfield and incoming residential and commercial spaces, the enormous regeneration project happening in Victoria North, and more.

With the cost-of-living crisis impacting the whole of the UK, affordable housing was emphasised as a key focus for the council, as well as transport and HS2, and sustainability targets.

Becca emphasised that “Manchester is still very much pushing for growth”. The city region has been extremely successful in delivering growth and regeneration through private and public sector partnerships and these strong partnerships continue to be ever significant for Manchester’s future.
