Downtown in Business is proud that Max Steinberg, Chair of Shakespeare Playhouse North, will be a featured speaker at our upcoming Mersey Power Towns event. This event, scheduled for Tuesday, 15th October 2024, will take place at the Irvine Building in Birkenhead. The focus of the event will be on the future of towns in the Liverpool City Region, with discussions centred around recent developments and the potential for cultural and economic regeneration.
As the former Chief Executive of Liverpool Vision, Max played a pivotal role in Liverpool’s participation in the World EXPO Shanghai 2010, a global event that showcased the city’s cultural and economic potential on an international stage. His leadership during this time was instrumental in promoting Liverpool’s image as a dynamic and forward-thinking city. In recognition of his contributions to business and the community, Max was awarded the OBE in 1997 and the CBE in 2013.
He has held several significant roles, including Chair of the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation, the Liverpool Arena and Convention Centre, and the Southport Flower Show. His commitment to cultural enrichment and public service is further reflected in his previous board membership at the Royal Court Theatre and his ongoing role as a Trustee of National Museums Liverpool. In March 2020, Max was appointed as Deputy Lieutenant of Merseyside.
Max’s passion for cultural transformation led him to the Shakespeare North Project, where he was appointed Chair of the Shakespeare North Trust in January 2020, after serving as a Trustee since 2016. His leadership on the Development Committee from 2018 to 2020 was crucial in advancing the project, which aims to create a world-class cultural and educational facility that will have a transformative impact on the region. Max’s belief in the power of culture as a catalyst for positive change is central to his vision for the Shakespeare Playhouse North.
At the Mersey Power Towns event, Max Steinberg will share his insights into the role of culture in urban regeneration and the potential for projects like Shakespeare Playhouse North to drive economic growth and community revitalisation. His extensive experience in cultural and economic development, combined with his deep understanding of the Liverpool City Region, makes him a key voice in discussions about the future of the area’s towns and cities.
