On Tuesday 10th June Downtown in Business hosted our exclusive ‘In Conversation with Melissa Caslake and Nic Beech’ roundtable event, at the Lowry Hotel.
This timely and engaging discussion took place on the eve of the Government Spending Review and brought together senior leaders and stakeholders from across Greater Manchester. The evening provided a platform to explore some of the most pressing challenges and opportunities currently shaping the region’s future.
Melissa Caslake, Interim Chief Executive of Salford City Council, and Professor Nic Beech, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Salford, led the conversation with insightful contributions on the future of public sector leadership, higher education, and regional development. Their perspectives on strategic planning, inclusive growth, and the importance of partnership between public and private sectors sparked a dynamic exchange of ideas.
The discussion touched on several key areas, including how Salford and Greater Manchester can drive sustainable economic growth, address the national housing crisis through local strategy, and build stronger, more resilient communities through collaboration. With the Spending Review looming large, the timing of the conversation added depth to the strategic dialogue in the room.
We would like to offer a thank you to our event sponsor, Sutcliffe, for their continued support and commitment to advancing regional conversations and progress.
Finally, thank you to all our guests for contributing to such a lively, constructive, and forward-thinking evening. It is through events like this that shared vision, leadership, and collaboration come to life. We look forward to continuing these important conversations at future Downtown in Business events.
