Downtown in Business will host a property club event on Wednesday 24th of April, at the Bank Restaurant and Bar in Birmingham, bringing together public and private sector leaders to discuss challenges and opportunities within the city region, following the recent trip to MIPIM.

We will be joined by Director of Property & Investment at Birmingham City Council, Philip Nell.

About the Speaker:

Philip has had an extensive career in the private sector holding senior real estate and investment roles at Aviva Investors, Federates Hermes, and most recently LaSalle Investment Management, where he was Head of UK Real Returns Assets.  Over his career to-date he has had responsibility for over £15 billion of real estate assets, including over £1 billion of developments, acting on behalf of both UK and overseas capital.

Philip joined Birmingham City Council in January 2023 as Director for Property & Investment, with responsibility for the Council’s real estate investment portfolio, operational portfolio and housing development functions.

With the City’s growth agenda set to deliver 51,100 new homes, 100,000 new jobs and £4bn in infrastructure investment, Philip and his team are focused on ensuring the city’s real estate and housing development activities maximise their contribution to securing the inclusive economic growth that will transform the city.

Speaker’s Address:

Philip will give an update on Birmingham City Council/Commissioner Intervention (including the asset disposal programme) and an overview of his new role and initial outlook for the Place Directorate. He will also discuss the challenges and opportunities facing Birmingham and the wider framework of working with the Combined Authority/Central Government as well as the wider framework of working with potential delivery and funding partners.
