Shadow ministers address DIB event

Downtown in Business, in association with Deloitte, hosted an exclusive private dinner at the INNSIDE by Melia hotel in Liverpool on Tuesday evening, reflecting on the Labour Party conference, held in the city this week.

The Shadow Minister for Industry and Decarbonisation Sarah Jones MP, and Bill Esterson MP from the shadow Transport team were among the guests and led a discussion around Labour’s policies on net zero, infrastructure, housing, planning, and the health service.

Deloitte Tax Partner Sean Beach said:

“An important way we at Deloitte can make an impact for the region is by engaging with decision makers and helping foster an informed debate about the priorities for business and the public sector over the next decade. DIB hosted a great event, and it was good to hear Labours plans from two shadow cabinet members.”

Downtown group chair and chief executive Frank McKenna said:

“We were delighted to welcome Sarah and Bill to talk in more detail about some of the things we had heard from the conference hall and in Keir Starmer’s speech earlier that day.

“It is important that businesses engage directly with decision-makers, and this was a great example of how DIB brings together business leaders and politicians to have discussion, debate, and, hopefully, inform policy of the future.”

Malmaison Deansgate

We are delighted that Malmaison Deansgate are our ‘Venue of the Month’ for September 2025. Its guestrooms pay homage to the retro design of the 60s and 70s, referencing the iconic G Plan furniture of this era, a benchmark for classic British design. Each room talks to the exterior of the building design, complimenting the harsh, brutalist designs of the exterior with bold patterns, powerful colours, strong materiality, and striking artwork.
