Downtown in Business hosted an exclusive lunch event with Maya Ellis MP on Friday 28th March at Stanley House Hotel, bringing together business leaders to discuss the future of Lancashire’s economy and governance. The conversation focused on three key areas:
- Opportunities with an Elected Mayor and Combined Authority
Ellis highlighted the potential benefits of devolution, highlighting how a directly elected mayor and a combined authority could drive investment, streamline decision-making, and enhance regional growth. Business leaders expressed keen interest in how this could unlock funding and support infrastructure projects, including housing. - The National Cyber Force and Its Impact
The discussion covered the significance of the National Cyber Force (NCF) and its presence in the region. Ellis outlined how the NCF could establish Lancashire as a leader in cyber security, attracting skilled jobs, fostering innovation, and strengthening the local tech ecosystem. - Potential Development of Cuerdale Garden Village
The event also explored the Cuerdale Garden Village project, a proposed development aimed at delivering sustainable housing and economic expansion. Ellis spoke about the importance of strategic planning to balance growth with environmental and community needs.
Downtown Lancashire, Chair, Rob Binns said ‘It’s great to bring the public and private sector together which gives Downtown members a valuable platform for dialogue between political leadership and the business community, reinforcing the counties ambition to become a powerhouse for investment, innovation, and sustainable development.’
