Lead by Council Leader, Liam Robinson, of Liverpool City Council, this Leaders Lunch Event will bring together thought leaders, business leaders and professionals from a range of sectors across Liverpool to discuss the changes and challenges facing the city region.

Over recent years, the Liverpool City Region has found itself coming up against some significant challenges brought about by changes in the economy due to factors such as Brexit, the Covid19 pandemic and the cost-of-living crisis and shifts in government spending.

Liam Robinson, Liverpool City Council Leader proves an expert voice to discuss the difficulties facing businesses and individuals in the region today and how we can turn changes to our advantage to help drive growth in the region. His priority is to lead an administration that puts Liverpool first, and throughout his political career he has been committed to making embracing innovation to improve Council services.

Liverpool City Council Leader Liam Robinson will share his in-depth insight on the issues and changes happening within the Liverpool City region and how these developments are impacting on the area.
Drawing on his experience of serving on the Liverpool City council and working to tackle contempory issues including making the city greener, using sustainable growth to create jobs, and supporting citizens through the cost-of-living crisis he will provide a unique and empowering insight into the support needed for different sectors within the Liverpool region and those living and working within it to thrive in our ever-changing economy.
About the Speaker:
Liam Robinson is a British Labour and Co-operative Party politician. He was elected as a councillor for Kensington and Fairfield in 2008 before becoming Cabinet Member for Finance, responsible for setting the Council’s budget.
He has since held various roles in the city, predominantly working within the transport industry including being the chair of Merseytravel, Portfolio Holder for Transport for the Liverpool City Region and serving on the board of the Northern Powerhouse Partnership.
He held management positions in the rail, bus and coach industries, including responsibility for three of Britain’s largest railway stations: Liverpool Lime Street, London Liverpool Street and Sheffield, before being elected as the Leader of Liverpool City Council’s Labour group in November 2022.
Following the Labour group gaining a majority of seats in the May 2023 local elections and the reestablishment of the position in May 2023, he was formally elected and began serving as the leader of Liverpool City Council, making him the first leader of the council in eleven years, following the role’s abolition and replacement with a directly elected mayor in 2012.
Since taking office, he has continued his predecessors work in addressing the 2021 government report into the council, and has campaigned on some of the most important issues affecting the region such as homelessness, pledging to build more affordable homes in Liverpool. He has also been a tireless advocate for more devolution of power to Liverpool City Region.
