A pool with a beach among the attractions making a splash at Ricoh Arena

Domestic swimming pools with underwater beaches and bedroom-based saunas are some of the products set to make a splash at a major water leisure show in Coventry.

Domestic swimming pools with underwater beaches and bedroom-based saunas are some of the products set to make a splash at a major water leisure show in Coventry.

SPATEX 2020 is visiting Ricoh Arena’s Ericsson Indoor Arena between Tuesday 28 January and Thursday 30 January to lay bare some of the innovative water gadgets that are beginning to make ripples in homes across the UK.

The general public can dip into the show for free – and the show comes at a time where the UK’s residential swimming pool market is worth around £500million a year, according to The Swimming Pool and Allied Trades Association.

Michele Bridle, event organiser of SPATEX, said: “The UK is riding the crest of a staycation wave which is evolving from not only travelling to other domestic locations, but bringing that holiday feeling into the home as well with long-term investments.

“This rising trend is vindicated by the rising visitor numbers that we are getting to the show year-on-year.

“There are four types of items that we expect will gather momentum over the coming years as they become more widely available and affordable.

“One-piece swimming pools are making it easier and quicker to install, as well as being cheaper to run. All that is needed is a pre-prepared hole to which the pool is lowered in, this is then backfilled with soil and filled with water and hey presto – the LPW Swimming Pool from Fairlocks even offers an authentic sea swimming experience by having an underwater beach area.

“Hot tubs and spas are remaining popular as ever, as more people become aware of their health benefits, and we’ll have around 35 models on offer at this year’s show. As well as providing a relaxing sensation, they have been proven to cure insomnia, relieve arthritic and rheumatic pain, and lower blood pressure.

“More people are also tuning into the health benefits of saunas – particularly to help with sleep and reduce stress – and manufacturer Certikin International will be demonstrating how their sleek glass cabins can be utilised in home spaces.

“Underwater treadmills are gathering pace as more people turn to the concept for improving co-ordination, balance and muscle strength – and as such we’ll have Sunbeach Spas’ iTread treadmill which also massages muscles before and after exercise.”
