Jo Henney, CEO at Nugent:
Keir Starmer’s pledge to boost the use of AI is essential to streamline services, boost economic growth and future-proof the UK – it is not something we can shy away from.
The AI Opportunities Action Plan will benefit the lives of working people and be instrumental in all sectors; it has the potential to ease strain on the NHS and social care, through the automation of administrative tasks, streamlining assessments, or assisting in care planning.
AI would enhance rather than replace the human workforce in the care system, by freeing up time to focus on direct, compassionate, high-quality care.
However, strict regulation is needed, alongside government funding, to ensure that AI-driven tools in social care are well-integrated and deliver tangible benefits to the sector.
AI also needs to be deployed in a way that benefits everyone, regardless of socioeconomic status.
