easyJet celebrated adding a brand-new destination to their Liverpool network yesterday, with the first departure to Split in Croatia, which follows the arrival this summer of the airline’s eighth aircraft to be based at Liverpool.
The new route will continue to operate twice-weekly on Mondays and Fridays throughout the summer and is expected to be popular with passengers from across the region. Split is the largest city on the Croatian coast, with a history going back to the Roman period and offers something for everyone. From ancient ruins to chic shops and open-air flea markets, there’s plenty to explore, along with its nearby stunning Adriatic coastline, home to pretty beaches and tranquil turquoise waters.
The arrival at Liverpool of the airline’s eighth A320neo aircraft, is supporting an additional 400 direct and indirect jobs and is enabling easyJet to offer even more choice and great value for money for flights and package holidays for customers in the North West and North Wales.
Over the past 12 months, easyJet has continued to grow its network from Liverpool, having launched eight new routes including Malta, Fuerteventura, Prague, Berlin, Marrakesh, City of Derry, Sharm el Sheikh, and now Split. The airline is now operating 31 routes to 15 countries from Liverpool to destinations across Europe and North Africa
Paul Winfield, Director of Aviation Development at Liverpool John Lennon Airport commented, “It’s great to see easyJet add another new destination to their Liverpool network and the first time that passengers from across the North West and North Wales will have been able to fly on a scheduled service from the region’s faster, easier, friendlier airport direct to Split from here, opening up easy access to this popular part of Croatia.”
Ali Gayward, easyJet’s UK Country Manager said, “We are really pleased to be celebrating the launch of our new summer route to Split providing yet another destination to choose when it comes to summer holidays this year.
“Through our unrivalled short-haul network and unique easyJet holidays offering from Liverpool, we continue to provide more choice and value for money, always aiming to make travel easy for the 2 million customers we fly to and from Liverpool every year.”
The airport celebrated with passengers on the first flight to Split, giving away cup cakes and other gifts.
