This week, we were delighted to join our valued partner Sutcliffe in celebrating an incredible milestone — their 40th anniversary. The celebration took place in style at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, bringing together colleagues, clients, and industry friends for an evening that perfectly reflected Sutcliffe’s spirit of innovation, collaboration, and success.
Guests were treated to outstanding entertainment, including a beautiful vocal performance by Olivia Mae, a lively set from DJ Ben Griffiths, and a captivating performance by saxophonist Ellen Louise. The atmosphere was one of genuine celebration, as partners and peers came together to honour four decades of dedication, growth, and engineering excellence.
This October marks 40 years in business for Sutcliffe, the Liverpool-headquartered civil and structural engineering consultancy founded in 1985. Over the years, Sutcliffe has evolved into a multi-disciplinary practice with offices in Manchester, London, and North Wales, delivering projects that have shaped communities across the UK.
Since its inception, the firm has completed tens of thousands of projects across the housing, healthcare, education, commercial, and heritage sectors. Notable recent schemes include the Greater Manchester Institute of Technology at the University of Salford, the Medicines Evaluation Unit extension at Wythenshawe, and Longshaw Drive — the largest council-led housing development in Salford for 50 years. The company has also contributed to the sensitive redevelopment of heritage landmarks such as Touchstones Rochdale and Heywood Civic Centre, preserving historic buildings while adapting them for modern use.
Sutcliffe’s achievements extend well beyond individual projects. The firm has delivered more than 35,000 projects nationwide, secured places on over ten major national and regional frameworks, and supported the delivery of more than £1 billion worth of housing and infrastructure. Its dedicated affordable housing team continues to deliver sustainable, high-quality homes to meet the UK’s growing demand.
A hallmark of Sutcliffe’s success has been its ongoing commitment to sustainability and innovation. The company has consistently embraced modern methods of construction, low-carbon design, and digital engineering tools to create resilient, future-ready buildings and infrastructure. From Passivhaus-standard housing and green-roofed education facilities to energy-efficient healthcare buildings, Sutcliffe continues to lead by example in sustainable design and delivery.
As the business celebrates its 40th year, Sutcliffe remains focused on the future. With a strong project pipeline, an experienced and dedicated team, and an unwavering commitment to sustainability and community impact, the company is well positioned to continue transforming places and lives across the UK for generations to come.
Congratulations once again to Sutcliffe on this remarkable milestone — 40 years of engineering excellence, partnership, and progress.
