Award-winning law firm Excello Law has opened its newest office in the heart of Birmingham’s business district at Two Snowhill. The launch of its Birmingham office cements its position as the only new-model law firm with a truly national footprint, with six offices located across the country.

The move spearheads Excello’s ambitious growth plans for the Midlands, and is supported by the recruitment of two leading lawyers from the region – Stephen Belshaw, who joins from Shoosmiths where he was an equity partner, and Richard Osborn, who has joined from Weightmans where he was Midlands regional office head.

Excello Law was one of the first law firms in the UK to pioneer a new model of law firm that offers talented and successful lawyers, who are passionate about law, greater freedom to practise and provide better value legal services for clients.

George Bisnought, managing director, said: “Excellence is central to everything we seek to achieve at Excello Law.  We have been eyeing up the opportunity to open in Birmingham for some years now but wanted to ensure we did it in the right way. I am therefore delighted to now be launching in Birmingham, with two well-regarded lawyers from the local market who bring a wealth of experience but, importantly, understand the Excello culture.

“We see this as the begininng of a new chapter for Excello and our strategy for growth in the wider Midlands region and will be recruiting more senior lawyers across all practice areas.”

Formerly a partner at Shoosmiths, Stephen Belshaw is an expert in construction law with a particular focus on contentious construction acting for main, sub and specialist contractors, employers, developers, funders, consultants and end-user occupiers. He has extensive knowledge and experience of adjudication, arbitration, litigation, mediation, expert determination and other forms of alternative dispute resolution

Richard is a real estate lawyer with over 20 years’ experience, particularly in commercial and residential development and regeneration, with clients ranging from national house-builders and developers to local landowners and investors. He was formerly Midlands regional office head and real estate partner at Weightmans and has regularly been recognised in the Legal 500 and Chambers & Partners directories.

Richard also has experience in the retail and leisure sector, having acted for several national retailers and leisure operators and has also led on a number of high-profile retail restructuring transactions.
