BIRMINGHAM AIRPORT AND PARTNERS TAKE THE PLUNGE FOR BIRMINGHAM CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL

Colleagues from Birmingham Airport (BHX) and other local organisations joined forces to raise over £30,000 for Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity by taking the plunge with a sponsored abseil challenge.

Colleagues from Birmingham Airport (BHX) and other local organisations joined forces to raise over £30,000 for Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity by taking the plunge with a sponsored abseil challenge. 115 brave participants from organisations around the airport and beyond took on the thrilling challenge on Wednesday 4th June, abseiling 104ft from the roof of Birmingham Airport’s head office building and collectively fundraising £32,668 to support the hospital in providing its vital care for sick children.

Over 11 organisations joined Birmingham Airport in taking on the challenge including easyJet, Wilson James, the NEC Group, Optime Group, Arden Molition,  fatjoe, and Mitie. Employees from Jaguar Land Rover also participated in the event with the business generously donating £10,000 to the fundraiser.

The fundraising achievement follows the announcement of Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity as Birmingham Airport’s official nominated charity partner in January with the airport pledging to raise £250,000 across three years for the hospital. In March, BHX staff raised nearly £2,000 by hosting a charity takeover day, which featured a raffle, live music performances and competitions.

Located in Birmingham city centre, the hospital is a leading UK specialist paediatric centre and offers expert care to over 100,000 children and young people from across the country every year.

Commenting on the fundraising achievement, Simon Richards, Chief Finance and Sustainability Officer at Birmingham Airport said:

“We’re absolutely delighted that colleagues from across the airport and beyond joined us in bravely taking the plunge in support of our nominated charity partner, Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity. Raising over £32,000 is a truly remarkable achievement and is a testament to the value that can be accomplished when we all collectively come together for such a great cause. We thank all of our colleagues and participants from third-party organisations for their tireless fundraising and contributions, and we look forward to sharing details of our forthcoming charity events in the near future.”

Katie Harris, Corporate Partnerships Manager at Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity, said:

“Birmingham Airport’s abseil event was a resounding success and the support each and every participant showed for our hospital and patients was truly heartwarming.

The incredible amount raised brings Birmingham Airport’s fundraising to over a staggering £32,000 which will help us support and improve hospital experiences for countless sick kids. We’re so thankful for this wonderful partnership and can’t wait to see what the brilliant BHX team achieve next.”
