Who Are Yer? // Patrick Gaffney

We chat to the latest DIB staff member, Patrick Gaffney, and find out what he likes most about his new role.

Name: Patrick Gaffney

Company: Downtown in Business

Job Title: Business Development & Events Coordinator

What are three words to describe yourself: Energetic, Hungry, Gobs***e (chatterbox)

What do you love about working from home: As I only started with DIB recently it’s pretty much all I have known so I would have to say the commute. I don’t know what it’s like normally, it might be better when we get there.

Favourite sports team: St. Helens Rugby League FC

Favourite Book: On The Road – Jack Kerouak

Favourite Podcast: WTF with Marc Maron – I love Marc Maron, I hope I’m like him when I grow up

Favourite Band/Artist: Led Zeppelin / Neil Young

Best business moment in your life: I have worked on some big dinners in my events career some of the production on those have been impressive. 600 diners transported in St Mark’s Square, Venice in the Deansgate suite of the Hilton springs to mind.

What advice would you give to 18-year-old you: Give yourself some credit, you’re better than you think you are!

If you were allowed to have 5 people, living or dead, in lockdown with you, who would they be: Dennis Skinner, Tony Benn, William Beveridge, Nye Bevan, Billy Bragg. Not sure I’d need to say anything just listen to the conversation

What restaurant are you most looking forward to returning to: Rudy’s Pizza – Not a huge chain or one of the biggest names but my gosh their pizzas are amazing and it actually hurts that I can’t get one!!!

Celebrity Crush: Kylie Minogue – since I was about 6 and I saw her on the tele.

Your Business Heroes are: Brew dog-making sanitiser instead of beer and giving it out free to the NHS facilities that need it, what great display of enterprise and innovation!

What superhero would you be: Batman (duh!)

Why Downtown: I wanted to come and work for Downtown because I have a passion for Manchester as a city. It is a historic city of resilience and prosperity that has never been afraid to stand up for itself and with DiB there is very much a feeling that you are on the inside of something special.
