Northern Council Leaders talk ‘Levelling Up’

Downtown Cheshire in Business were delighted to host our ‘Northern Power Towns Leaders’ Lunch’ recently at Opera Grill, Chester.

Downtown Cheshire in Business were delighted to host our ‘Northern Power Towns Leaders’ Lunch’ recently at Opera Grill, Chester.

Downtown CEO, Frank McKenna, was joined by the Chief Executive of Cheshire West and Chester Council, Andrew Lewis, and Chief Executive of Warrington Council, Steven Broomhead on Tuesday 29th March, along with a number of delegates, to discuss the government’s latest ‘levelling up’ agenda and the future of towns in the North.

After a fantastic lunch, both Andrew and Steven shared their experiences as northern council leaders. Discussion focused on levelling up and questioning its objectives after comparing the agenda with similar previous government initiatives to boost and promote the north, such as ‘the northern way’ and ‘the northern powerhouse’. Following this, the floor was open to questions and discussion as delegates shared their views. Mayors and devolution were another key topic of conversation, with Andrew Lewis drawing comparison to the greater autonomy in Scotland and Wales.

We would like to thank Morgan Sindall Construction for sponsoring this event and thank you to Opera Grill for their outstanding hospitality.
