Hezza to join special Downtown lunch – 40 years on from riots

The man who is seen as one of the key figures in Liverpool’s recovery and regeneration will join Downtown in Business for an exclusive lunchtime event in July - Lord Michael Heseltine.

Lord Michael Heseltine, who was named as the ‘Minister for Merseyside’ back in 1981, will be reflecting on the challenges he faced and the long road to Liverpool’s renaissance which he played a major role in, forty years after the Toxteth riots.

‘Hezza’ will be in conversation with the chief executive of Downtown in Business Frank McKenna who said:

“I am delighted that Lord Heseltine has agreed to join us to mark the fortieth anniversary of the Riots. It is an appropriate time to look back on a difficult time in the city’s history, but more importantly how Heseltine and the team he brought in acted as an important catalyst for a renewal of our city – leading to the much-improved Liverpool we see today.

“It will also be interesting to hear what he thinks we need to do to maintain the momentum of success we have enjoyed in the early part of the twenty-first century and get his thoughts on the future not only of Liverpool but cities generally in the post-COVID world.”

The event will take place 12-2pm on Wednesday 7th July. Further details will be announced later this month.
