This week, we’re proud to celebrate a milestone for one of our valued members, Ed James, who marks his 50th birthday with a powerful reflection on purpose, clarity and impact.
Ed’s journey is one that many across the Downtown in Business network will recognise and admire. From his role on air at BBC Radio WM, to serving as a Deputy Lieutenant, building his agency, advancing AI innovation and launching ENGAGED, his work spans multiple disciplines but is united by a clear thread: understanding people, telling better stories and creating meaningful connections.
Reaching 50 has not been about slowing down. Instead, Ed speaks about becoming more selective, focusing his time, energy and attention on what truly matters. His reflections are a reminder that real success is not measured by how busy we appear, but by how useful we are and the impact we have on others.
His perspective on leadership and life resonates strongly. Time is finite, so spend it wisely. Energy should be protected. Reputation is built on how you make people feel. And the most meaningful work is rooted in service, not status.
As a network that champions leadership, collaboration and purpose, we’re delighted to have Ed as part of the DIB community. Here’s to the next chapter and to continuing to make a difference where it counts most.
