On Tuesday 20th January 2026, Downtown in Business was pleased to host the Powering the North: Devolution Lunch at Malmaison, Manchester, convening senior leaders from Lancashire, Cheshire and Greater Manchester for a focused and constructive roundtable discussion.

The discussion centred on devolution, regional collaboration and shared strategic priorities, with consideration given to how strengthened local decision-making, effective cross-boundary working and long-term partnerships can support sustainable economic growth and regional opportunity across the North.

There was valuable contributions from Stephen Young, Chief Executive of Salford City Council, Dan Price, Cheshire Police and Crime Commissioner, and Scott Butterfield, Head of Strategy, Data and Corporate Development at Blackpool Council. Their insights and experience helped to inform a considered, informed and forward-looking exchange among attendees.

Downtown in Business would like to thank event sponsors Sutcliffe, Story Homes and Morgan Sindall Construction for their support, and all participants for their thoughtful engagement and constructive contributions to an impactful and meaningful discussion.
