BCN Group sets out bold vision for UK AI leadership and launches ‘AI for Good Growth’ agenda

Leading technology business joins forces with Downtown in Business to champion a national AI revolution that drives economic growth, transforms public services and creates opportunities across every UK region.

BCN Group has set out an ambitious vision for the United Kingdom to become a global leader in the adoption and application of artificial intelligence, arguing that the technology represents a once-in-a-generation opportunity to transform the British economy, modernise public services and deliver sustainable, inclusive economic growth.

In a policy briefing entitled Partnering at the Frontier, developed in response to last weeks Innovation Nation Summit, BCN explores how Britain can position itself at the forefront of the next phase of the AI revolution, building on its strengths in technology, research, innovation and entrepreneurship, while addressing the barriers currently preventing businesses and public institutions from realising AI’s full potential.

Working alongside national business organisation Downtown in Business (DIB), BCN is championing an ‘AI for Good Growth’ agenda, designed to ensure that artificial intelligence becomes a powerful driver of productivity, innovation, investment and opportunity, with the benefits felt across the UK’s cities, regions and communities.

The central message of BCN’s vision is clear: Britain does not need to compete with the United States in every aspect of developing the world’s most advanced AI models to become a global AI powerhouse. Instead, the UK must establish itself as an indispensable international partner, while becoming one of the world’s most effective economies at applying artificial intelligence to improve productivity, support businesses, strengthen public services and create new opportunities for its people.

BCN believes this ambition requires a coordinated national strategy, bringing together government, technology companies, investors, universities and regional leaders. Its proposals include stronger partnerships with international AI innovators, investment in affordable energy and digital infrastructure, improved access to data, support for British technology businesses and a renewed focus on equipping young people and existing workforces with the skills needed to thrive in an AI-driven economy.

Crucially, the company argues that the AI revolution must not become another economic opportunity concentrated in London and the South East. Instead, the UK’s emerging AI strategy should be closely aligned with the government’s growth and devolution agendas, empowering city regions and local businesses to drive innovation, attract investment and create high-quality employment.

BCN Group Chief Executive Rob Davies said:

“Artificial intelligence represents one of the most significant economic and technological opportunities of our generation. The question is no longer whether AI will transform the way we live and work, but whether Britain has the ambition, leadership and determination to ensure that transformation benefits our businesses, our communities and our economy.

“We have extraordinary strengths in this country, from world-class universities and innovative entrepreneurs to an increasingly sophisticated technology sector. However, we must move beyond simply talking about AI’s potential and start creating the conditions in which businesses and public services can adopt it at scale.

“That means investing in infrastructure, supporting British technology businesses, developing the skills of our workforce and establishing meaningful partnerships with the global organisations leading AI innovation.

“Above all, we must ensure that AI delivers good growth. Growth that creates opportunities for young people, makes our businesses more competitive, improves the public services on which communities depend and supports economic prosperity in every part of the country.

“Britain has an opportunity to lead the world, not necessarily by building every new AI model, but by demonstrating how artificial intelligence can be used intelligently, responsibly and effectively to build a stronger economy and a better society.”

The BCN vision also places significant emphasis on the role AI can play in tackling some of Britain’s most persistent economic and social challenges. From improving efficiency within the NHS and local government to accelerating housing delivery, supporting regeneration and helping small and medium-sized businesses become more productive, the company believes practical AI adoption can deliver tangible benefits for citizens, employers and taxpayers.

The company’s partnership with Downtown in Business will provide an important platform for taking this agenda forward, connecting BCN’s technological expertise and policy ambitions with DIB’s extensive network of business leaders, policymakers, local authorities and regional decision-makers.

Downtown in Business Chief Executive Frank McKenna welcomed BCN’s vision and said:

“At Downtown in Business, we have consistently argued that the UK will only realise its full economic potential if we empower our cities and regions, embrace innovation and create an environment where businesses can invest, grow and succeed. Artificial intelligence has the potential to accelerate that ambition in a way that few other technological developments have managed in recent decades.

“However, we must avoid repeating the mistakes of previous economic transformations, where too much investment, too many opportunities and too much decision-making were concentrated in London and the South East. If we are serious about delivering good growth in every postcode, then AI adoption must be at the heart of our devolution, regeneration and regional economic development agendas.

“That is why we are delighted to be working with BCN Group. Their vision is not simply about technology for technology’s sake. It is about using innovation to improve productivity, support entrepreneurs, transform public services and deliver better outcomes for businesses and communities.

“Through our engagement with government, metro mayors, local authorities and business leaders, DIB will continue to champion an approach that puts private-sector expertise and innovation at the centre of economic renewal. We want to see companies like BCN helping to shape the national policy debate, while demonstrating how AI can deliver real improvements on the ground.

“The UK has an opportunity to become a world leader in the practical application of AI. But that leadership will not be measured by the number of strategies published or conferences hosted. It will be measured by the businesses we help grow, the jobs we create, the public services we improve and the prosperity we generate across the country.

“BCN’s ambition aligns perfectly with the Downtown in Business agenda. We want Britain to be more innovative, more entrepreneurial, more productive and more prosperous. AI can be a hugely important part of making that happen.”

The joint AI for Good Growth agenda will focus on encouraging greater AI adoption among British businesses, supporting innovation across the public sector, promoting the development of AI skills and ensuring that regional economies are equipped to capitalise on emerging technologies. It will also explore how stronger collaboration between government and industry can accelerate progress, reduce barriers to investment and ensure that Britain remains internationally competitive.

BCN will contribute to the national debate on artificial intelligence at Change Makers Live 2027, the major business and policy conference being hosted by Downtown in Business and the Fleet Street Quarter BID in London on Wednesday 20 January 2027. The event will bring together senior business leaders, policymakers, entrepreneurs and influential commentators to debate the major economic, political and technological challenges facing Britain.

Rob Davies added:

“AI should not simply be about doing existing things faster or cheaper. It should give us the confidence to rethink how organisations operate, how public services are delivered and how we create the next generation of successful British businesses.

“Our partnership with Downtown in Business provides an opportunity to take these ideas beyond the technology sector and into the wider conversations about Britain’s economic future. We want to work with those who are serious about turning innovation into investment, productivity and prosperity.

“If we get this right, artificial intelligence can become a powerful driver of good growth, helping to build a more productive, prosperous and inclusive Britain. BCN intends to be at the forefront of that journey.”

BCN Group and Downtown in Business will continue to engage with government, regional leaders, business organisations and public-sector decision-makers as they develop the AI for Good Growth agenda, with further policy contributions, business engagement and practical initiatives planned during 2027.
