The Downtown in Business team was lucky enough to attend the 2021 annual Liverpool International Tennis Tournament last week (Friday 20th August 2021).

After a hiatus last year (for obvious reasons) and a delay of a few months, whilst lockdown issues were resolved, we were delighted to be welcomed by Anders and the team for a day of excellent hospitality and superb tennis.

It’s been a few years since I have attended the Tennis and I must say the revamped layout, with the court central to the hospitality tent and grandstand is most welcome and really allows everyone to enjoy the full offer of the event.

The most welcome addition to the day was of course the great British weather that managed to stay dry, we even got a few brief periods of sunshine. But on the whole, the weather was on its best behaviour that allowed us to enjoy some superb action on the court.

After what has been an event-less 14 months or so, (although DIB has still been full tilt over the past year) it was incredible to be out and about again, seeing old friends and new.

At this point, I should really thank my colleagues for their wonderful company (they are of course), but really it was everyone who was there that really made the day special.

There was a sense of relief that things are slowly getting back to normal. Everyone I spoke to couldn’t wait for the next event they will be attending.

Now before I wrap up, I must say congratulations to Beth Gray who defeated Amelia Stuart in the final to become Women’s 2021 Champion and James Ward who beat Marcus Willis to become the Male 2021 Champion. A huge well done to all four athletes on their fantastic and entertaining displays.

Finally, and I can’t stress this enough, a massive well done to Anders and the team at Northern Vision. In what has been an incredibly difficult period, they managed to pull off a superb event and myself and the DIB team can’t congratulate you enough.

We also can’t wait to be back next year as they celebrate 20 years of the Liverpool International Tennis Tournament. We know it’s going to be even better.
