Transport Bosses Confident in Passengers Returning

With the UK roadmap on track and Covid restrictions being lifted Downtown Liverpool in Business hosted its first live event of 2021 at The Pullman Hotel, Kings Dock on Tuesday 18th May 2021.

With the UK roadmap on track and Covid restrictions being lifted Downtown Liverpool in Business hosted its first live event of 2021 at The Pullman Hotel, Kings Dock on Tuesday 18th May 2021. The event entitled ‘Travelling Out of Lockdown’ we heard from Suzanne Grant, Commercial Director for Merseyrail and John Irving, CEO of Liverpool John Lennon Airport.

Topics discussed on the day included how they adapted to the pandemic, the reduced customers through the venues and what they could do to increase peoples confidence in travel once again.

Suzanne Grant pointed out that Merseyrail had been running at 10% capacity and the recent roadworks have deterred people from coming into the city centre altogether.

John Irving was optimistic about the cities future, commenting ‘the airport will survive and thrive once again’.

Other topics discussed included Merseyrail moving to a contactless card payment system and the loss of international football travel.

Downtown’s Head of Events, Heather Thornton, commented ‘it was amazing to be able to host an event again and see people meeting face to face, and Downtown were delighted to be back doing what we do best. I would like to thank John and Suzanne for discussing their experiences over the last 18 months and it was great to hear their optimism for the future’.
