Birchwood Shopping Centre’s Green Apple Award win

Birchwood Shopping Centre has partnered up with B&M Waste Services to develop waste management solutions which are both efficient and environmentally friendly.

Birchwood Shopping Centre has partnered up with B&M Waste Services to develop waste management solutions which are both efficient and environmentally friendly. This has resulted in the awarding of a much sought after Green Apple Award for Environmental Best Practice for the shopping centre.

Being environmentally conscious is a high priority at Birchwood Shopping Centre, and the working relationship with B&M Waste Services has enabled the centre to achieve this goal in its entirety. B&M’s pledge to contribute zero waste to landfill was a significant factor in the decision, when it came to selecting a new waste management contract. The partnership has enabled significant improvements in waste handling at the Centre, this included involving retailers and office tenants in waste segregation. Pete and the team have been recognised in the awarding of a prestigious ‘Environmental Best Practice’ Green Apple Award.

Facilities Manager at Birchwood Shopping Centre, Peter Owen, eluded to the centre’s desire to operate in an environmentally-friendly manner, as well as the positive beginning to the relationship with B&M Waste by saying; “Sustainable waste is a vital component in the running of the centre. One of the reasons we chose B&M Waste was because they are a Carbon Neutral company and that helps us along with our green credentials. We’re so thrilled to have won this award and I’d like to thank the B&M team as well as my own team at Birchwood for contributing to us winning it.”

Wendy Mitchell, National Account Manager at B&M Waste Services commented: “We’ve worked with Peter and the team at Birchwood Shopping Centre to assess their waste output, look at potential waste reduction strategies and develop a bespoke solution to increase their recycling credentials. The Birchwood Shopping Centre team have done a fantastic job in improving the green credentials of the centre through the successful implementation of a zero waste to landfill waste management service, which encourages recycling at every opportunity.”
