Commissioners to step down from LCC

Government Commissioners this week announced that they will be handing back all powers to Liverpool City Council.

Government Commissioners this week announced that they will be handing back all powers to Liverpool City Council.

After a three-year intervention in the authority, where they oversaw many key elements of how the council was managed, including its financial affairs, they will be handing back control to leaders at Liverpool City Council. The announcement is a vote of confidence in Liam Robinson, Andrew Lewis, and the new leadership team at the City Council.

The Group chair and chief executive of Downtown in Business Frank McKenna said:

“This is good news for Liverpool, and a testament to the effort and hard work the new political and executive leadership have put in to demonstrate that Liverpool is well capable of governing itself now.

“Of course, with that new responsibility comes new challenges. The business community is desperate for the city to start moving forward on some of the big strategic initiatives and opportunities we have – including some potential big regeneration projects in the city.

“As always, DIB looks forward to being a critical friend of the council, and I am optimistic that the progress that Liam Robinson has made in a relatively short period of time will continue.”

Liverpool City council leader Cllr Liam Robinson will be the keynote speaker at this year’s City of Liverpool Business Awards on Thursday 4th July.
