Downtown in Business were delighted to host a series of events on Monday 25th July to welcome the Leader of the Labour Party, Sir Keir Starmer, to Liverpool.

Delegates joined us at the state-of-the-art Spine building in the city’s Knowledge Quarter for an exclusive breakfast with Labour Party officials. DIB Chair and presenter, Jacey Normand introduced the speakers, being followed on stage by the Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rachel Reeves MP, giving a statement on her vision for the UK’s economy. Next, Sir Keir Starmer took to the stage to give a pivotal speech, highlighting key issues such as the cost of living crisis and climate change, and outlining Labour’s ideas for “a fresh start to Britain” with a large emphasis on growth particularly through business productivity, investment and R&D.

Later on, DIB members joined once again for a drinks reception at Modo, Concert Square to exhibit one of Liverpool’s many successful past regeneration projects. Joined by Tom Bloxham of Urban Splash, members enjoyed presentations from Shadow Minister for Work and Pensions, Alison McGovern MP, Shadow Secretary of State for Business and Industrial Strategy, Jonathan Reynolds MP, and Sir Keir Starmer MP to reflect on their day in Liverpool and to emphasise the importance of working in alliance with local businesses in order to benefit local, and national, economy.
