Thursday 13th June will officially be ‘Downtown Day’, as Downtown in Business celebrates its twenty-first anniversary in style.

DIB will be the headline sponsor for the first day of the Qube Liverpool International Tennis Tournament at Aigburth Cricket Club – followed by a lavish 21st birthday party back in Liverpool City Centre.

Transport will be available back into town for those who attend the tennis – and the good news is that if you want to purchase tickets for the tennis, then you will get a 20% discount on the price by quoting ‘Downtown Day’.

DIB boss Frank McKenna said:

“We feel very proud to have reached this milestone. It doesn’t seem like five minutes ago that we were launching Downtown in Business at the ‘Livercool’ awards back in 2003 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel.

“Obviously, we have gone on to establish the Downtown brand in many other cities since, including Manchester, Leeds, Birmingham, and Newcastle, – but Liverpool is where it all started, and it is great to be marking our 21st year by sponsoring what is one of the most anticipated sporting events in the city’s calendar.

“Anders Borg started the Tennis Tournament at around the same time as I founded DIB, and we got involved straight away. It is great to see how Anders and his team at Northern Vision have developed the event over the past two decades – and how it has acted as a catalyst for so many young people in Liverpool to take up the game.

“Over the years, I have met many of my tennis heroes at this tournament – Martina Navratilova, Bjorn Borg, and Ilie Nastase to name a few, and the business community has really got behind the event too.

“Downtown Day – and night – is going to be a very memorable occasion, and I hope that all those members who have supported us and made the success of DIB possible, will come and help us celebrate on our big day.”
